Kratom Effects

Kratom has a strong effect on your anxiety, mood and energy levels. It lowers your anxiety level, while the feeling has been described as happy, strong, and active, with a strong desire to do work. The mind is described as calm. Thai workers use it to get through a hard day of work. Effects come on within five to ten minutes after use, and can last for several hours.

Most people describe the effects as stimulating and euphoric at lower doses, becoming sedative at higher doses. This is probably explained by the fact that mitragynine stimulates the delta opioid receptors when used in small quantities, but tends to increasingly stimulate mu opioid receptors when used in larger quantities. These are the same receptors that are stimulated when using opiate drugs.

Although the most important alkaloids are related to psychedelic substances, there appears to be no psychedelic activity. The dominant effects seem to be similar to opiate drugs, and include analgesia and cough suppression, but effects are also described as euphoric and stimulating. These effects are roughly comparable in strength to codeine.

There are some sources that suggest Kratom (like opiates) stimulates desire in women and reduces erectile problems in men. This is most likely explained by the effect of mitragynine on one’s anxiety levels. Other effects of mitragynine are a reduction in smooth muscle tone, local anesthesia, and central nervous system depression.

Acute possible negative effects include dry mouth, increased urination, loss of appetite, and constipation. Unlike opiates, mitragynine does not cause nausea or vomiting in most cases. Heavy use can result in a prolonged sleep. Read more about the effects of and warnings for the use of kratom on the warnings page.

Difference between kratom strains

There are several types of kratom available, and new strains seem to appear on the market frequently. However, in reality these are often commercial Thai or Malaysian types, sold under a different name.

Responsible for the difference in effects are genetic differences, causing a change in indole and alkaloid formation.
kratom powder
Bali: Users report that Bali kratom becomes narcotic and very relaxating at higher doses, while it allows for a more stimulating effect when low doses are ingested.

Thai: Thai kratom effects are said to be the longest lasting, and most sedating of all kratom strains. Nowadays commercial available Thai kratom is grown in countries other than Thailand, as it was banned some years ago. A normal dose of Thai kratom contains 3-5 grams.

Malaysia: Malaysian kratom is reported to be almost identical to kratom originating from Bali.

Maeng Da: (Thai) Maeng Da kratom is translated as ‘pimp grade’ kratom and originates from Thailand. It is the strongest kratom strain available today. According to users, Maeng Da is less euphorizing than other strains, but it is praised for its energizing effects. Critics say it is more jittery than other Premium Thai strains, and argue it is not as long lasting. The active dose is 1-2 grams. High quality Maeng Da is very green in color.

IV'E BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH MY VENDOR, AND THE THAI KRATOM POWDER. I DECIDED TO TRY "MAENG DA" (THAI), AND I AM NOT GETTING THE "ENERGY EFFECT" THAT I HAVE BEEN GETTING FROM THE REGULAR THAI KRATOM. I AM CONFUSED, IN THAT I THOUGHT "MAENG DA" WOULD GIVE ME MORE ENERGY. I'M HOPING FOR SOME REPLIES, THANK YOU, STU...
ya, ive been taking kratom for a long time and i gotta say, i love thai kratom. I tried maeng da and it didnt give me the euphoria/energy i wanted... BUT i did try a gram for the Maeng Da 40x powder and it is probably the best ive had yet.it is alot more expensive however. Have a great day!
I'm at a point where less is better, and the Thai kratom powder 3 times a day, helps me with pain better than pill form opiates. I get a bit jittery if I use any more than this. My first dose of the day is a well rounded teaspoon, mixed with a small amount of hot water, then a bit less for my next 2 doses. I don't use any before sleep, because I feel it's just a waste, and I sleep through the pain just fine until my first morning dose. Until I find something better for pain, depression, & anxiety, I see no reason to stop using kratom. Use responsibly...
I recently discovered Kratom as I was looking for an alternative to pain killers. I had 12 procedures done on my kidney and they were just feeding me lortabs but if I ran out and would have to wait for my refill I found myself in deep trouble trying to deal with the pain (and possibly the withdrawal effect from taking lortabs for months at a time then just stopping-- might I add I was taking the meds as prescribed by my dr). I got tired of the pain pill game and decided I needed an alternative and came across Kratom maeng da and after near 10 months of being fed pain pills this worked AMAZING and within minutes I went from doubled over in pain to up and at it doing laundry etc. ((no joke!!)) I also tried Bali strand but found it to give me an awkward sedative feeling. Maeng da has helped me get off pain pills and helped me regain my life back!
I just ordered some Thai kratom, I'm really hoping for and opiate/energy like effect that I get from pills...I don't want to take them anymore so I thought I'd try this. Wish me luck.
I started experimenting with different strains when my supplier ran out of bali, Bali gives me a nice euphoria, It makes me very pleasant, The thai made me want to work. Both help reduce my pain. I may be using more of the thai for housework day.
i know someone who is using captain kratom capsules . could they be addicting. also could it cause mood swings . or be used as if it were a drug (vicodin)
I love kratom it has been a life saver.I was prescribed perscription opiotes for years and when I decided to stop the detox was so severe but when I tried Kratom (of any strain) all of the withdrawal symptoms immediatly went away along with my pain ,also got my energy back.I would recommend this to anyone as an opiate alternative!
Kratom is always a fascinating topic to talk about, especially because of its diversity. Unlike other ethno botanicals of its kind, its effects are different depending on its strain, it changes its effects depending upon the amount you ingest. Truly, this mysterious plant is covered with a veil of mystery, and among many questions about kratom comes about the difference of its strains. Let us answer that question here.
I just discovered Captain Kratom after 12 years of Norco...so sick of the doctor appointments...so sick of drugs period. So, well, it is great/ no withdrawl symptoms, resting OK....thank goodness there is life after opiates
I feel like I must be doing something wrong. I have tried 3 different strands of kratom and nothing seems to be helping me with my pain. I have only tried capsules, would the powder be a better option for me? I need something that won't make me very sedated so I tried a Thai strain, I think that it over stimulated me. Can someone help me?
red vein is more sedative, green vein is more stimulating
My story is very similar, but I tried Suboxen and couldn't stand the taste and vomiting. Kratom took care of the wd's and gave me back my energy.
No you idiot. Everything is a drug you twat. THe food you eat, that effect your "love" gives you. It can be used like vicodin as it produces pain killing effects. Abusing kratom is a little hard to do because taking too much WILL cause nausea and vomiting.
I noticed quite a few comments about certian strains lacking the energy effect .I use white vein Indonesian Kratom for energy....It works wonderfully , I would even say better than most stimulants prescribed by a doctor. Borneo red Kratom feels just like narcotics and really helps with the pain. We order ours right online. Also The powder works the best not to mention you get sooo much more for your money...I know its quite yucky but there are ways to make the powder more tolerable.
I have tried many different strains just because I can, and to find the absolute best one that fits me. I have noticed that Bali tends to make me slight nauseous regardless of the dose, but the stronger, more sedating Red Veins such as Sumatran, Kali, Thai, and Borneo provide a long lasting sedation affect without any kind of nausea. Talk about odd. I used to do a lot of pills back in the day, mostly Norcos, and those would almost always make me nauseous. So why is it that Bali seems to have that same affect on me, while the much stronger, sedating, Red strains do not? I'd welcome some input. :)
Hi NobleFern, this is actually a very common experience! There are a variety of different alkaloids that can contribute to nausea, the wobbles, and euphoria, sadly, Bali has large amounts of all, making it potent, but also "dirty" to those who are sensitive to it. On the other hand, many other "cleaner" kratom types typically have more variable alkaloid spectrums. Notice, however, that if you make a tea out of bali and strain the powder you won't experience the same nausea, because the alkaloid that contributes to the "dirtiness" is fat soluble and not water soluble. This is the primary reason that we at [name withheld - sorry] don't stock bali kratom, as we prefer more clean, potent lucid kratom. I hope that helped! Sincerely, Cody
Ha meang da does not translate to " pimp grade" it translates to water bug.... But yea
I have been prescribed suboxone for over 7 years now and have been trying to get off for about 2 now. I read about kratom and decided to order 2 oz of powder(white vein borneo and maeng Da).I am sure glad I did it has helped me so much so i then ordered a sample of like 7 different kinds. I have a lot of pain issues and refuse to do the opiate thing but kratom works I haven't taken a sub in over a week now and am loving it!!!so I would definatly recomend this to anyone. all strains have their own unique signiture if you will so if your up in the air on what to try first get a smple pack for a bout $50 find what works for you.
Just feel much better with maeng da Kratom than I do with my oxy I get monthly, pain disappears amd no withdtawls. Why doctors don't prescribe this instead is beyond me.
the caps can be good or very poor quality depending on where you get them, if i were you i would just order the bali powder. my favorite strain for pain.
I take Bali kratom every day, with a break of a few days here and there for my chronic neck and back pain. The first time I took it, I took too much for a first time user and got sick. Now I am tolerant to it and it doesn't nauseate me anymore. I haven't had to increase my dose, probably because of the breaks I take. I'm hoping it doesn't become illegal here, as it has been the best thing for my pain yet. It lifts my mood without making me feel "high" and thus, all-around, it's pretty darn perfect. I take the capsules. I tried the sample of maeng da I was sent, but in me it caused a little anxiety and I got more nervous than content. Everyone's chemistry is a little different, but I'm sticking to the Bali.
I was just curious as to how much (mg's) you were taking of the maeng da? and how many times a day you have to take it. Thank you!
I have tried Maeng Da, Malay, & Thai.. I Like the Maeng Da the most, but I find that the Malay seems to last longer. I have tried Thai, but wasn't Impressed. I find that the Maeng Da lasts for a good amount of time about 4-5 hrs. But It gives me energy and Is great for my pain. I used to take Oxycodone 15mg. But I find that I don't need them or my Valium when I take Maeng da. I think that I have found what I've been looking for. Although I do get withdrawls when I don't take atleast 6-8 capsules a day!!
I am prescribed 15mg of Oxycodone 4 times a day and 10mg of Valium 4 times a day. I have started to take Maeng Da Kratom to see what would happen and I love It. I find that I don't need my prescribed meds at all when I take Kratom. It's wonderful for me. Although I do go through a withdrawl If I don't have the Kratom everyday atleast 6-8 capsules. I would rather take Kratom because It's natural. I hope that I can continue to take the Maeng Da and eventually tapper down. I will always need pain management so I think the Kratom Is best...
I have noticed that Kratom does not give me that warm Ichi feeling that opioids do, however it does give me a sense of well-being and sometimes energy. I just received 1 lb of some Maeng Da from a new distributor and I must say I am VERY impressed. I'm sure I can't say the name of the company but I have tried the very popular liquid kratom and the pills. I have payed $36 for four pills and did they did not do much of anything @ least for me. So my suggestion is shop around and find the best that works for you. However it can get expensive trying to find a good distributor with a good product. You can always ask for a sample with a small purchase. But I have found my new home today. Take it responsibly or you can go through a bit of a rough patch coming off of it and that is just a fact. Good luck and happy shopping
Kratom could change this opiate addicted planet. The government dont want you to know about this because its the real thing. Kratom is a game changer. Dont abuse it . Small doses 3 times a day and you will bbe fine. It helped me better than any pain pill. Do yourself a favor and kick the opiates. Help is spelled k r a t o m.
Good for you. It helped me too get off pills!
May I ask how much you take? I currently on about 40 mgs of oxycodone a day
My husband used to steal my pain pills until he found Kratom. He uses it every day and it gets expensive. In my opinion, anything can be addicting if you have that personality. But, because it is legal he sees no problem with using it..... He used to be an easy going person, but now he gets mean when he isn't using kratom. He drinks vodka every day and I am sure this adds to the effects of having and not having kratom.
I have been additicted to perscription pain killers for 4 years now. I took my taste pk 3 days ago and have felt little withdrawal symptoms at all! this is insane to me because i've tried to quit before and the withdrawal symotoms were so intense and so painful i always went back. i started taking maeng da kratom the day i took my last pill and it has allowed me to breathe new life without pain killers. its awesome, i would recommend to anyone that wants to kick an opiate addition.
ive been through the same thing. Addicted to pain killers & then my doctor suddenly cut me off & my addiction spiraled out of control. I was buying from friends and then I'd heard about kratom. So one day when I was out of pain pills, I decided instead of spending my day looking for them...I'd go to my local head shop & at least try kratom. I bought Maeng da and it stopped all withdrawals & I actually slept that night without tossing and turning & I never took another pain pill after that. It gave me the same euphoric feeling that lortabs give & the energy & I've even noticed that my nose will itch just like when I took lortabs lol. It's really good with my pain. I take it for pain & I even had a baby, naturally for the first time without any pain meds whatsoever....just my kratom! It's the best thing I've ever found & changed my life when I started taking it. My life changed because I was able to break my pain pill addiction & go back to normal!
Seems similar to Yerba Matte in its stimulate action which I use.
I have tried bali its awesome. I tried superior green Malaysian and it made me super sleepy.bali I have to take about 4 capsules and im energized all day. but then the next day if I don't take any im super hungry sleepy drained. I want to try red Dragon capsules.
So for my first time taking kratom today I took 5 tbsp and yes Im sure it was tbsp and not tsp. It had no effect on me what so ever. I just toss and washed it and nothing happened. It was a mix of Green Malay and White Vein Borneo. Why didnt it affect me?
think it'd be possible/legal to put small amounts of kratom into a commercial soft drink? it sounds stupid to alot of people i'm sure but i wanted opinions on this
I really want to try this! I hate taking Norco and trying to find things to help with energy. I know the Norco is so bad for my liver and I don't want to cut my life short. but I have to admit, I do need help during the day. I don't know if I suffer from depression or what, but this looks like something that can bring some relief instead of buying Norco off the street. I'm excited to try it. I'll update and tell how it goes for me.
